What builds your energy? What brings excitement and power to your day?
Do you find that some days are like making your way through a vat of treacle? That showing a bright and happy face is nigh on impossible and the thought of being ‘Positive Penny’ just exhausts you?
It can happen to anyone. It is hard being the lifter upper – I don’t mean the ‘lift and separate’ kind like those of us with breasts deal with on a daily basis – I mean the kind that lifts people’s spirits, lightens the mood, brings a positive energy to the day…
So what happens when you hit one of those days when being the ray of sunshine just doesn’t cut it?
“What’s wrong with you?”
“There must be something wrong…you’re not your usual bubbly self!”
So apparently I am usually bubbly – whatever that means.
Bubbly like champagne – fun for a while but gives you a headache…
Bubbly like sulphur mud pools – relaxing, healing but rather smelly…
Bubbly like a bubble bath – lovely smelling, fun to play with…unless you are one of my granddaughters who is not fond of the fact that she can’t see the bottom of the bath…
Well some days I am not a bubbly ray of uplifting sunshine, floating around with ease and spreading joy. Some days I am a ‘downer’, walking through treacle.
“Fair enough”, I imagine you thinking, everyone has their down days. Very true and life is a series of ups and downs. If you were always up, how would you know – what could you compare it to?
But a down day can be tough, robbing you of energy. A down day can sometimes lead to another down day, then another and another…and that is not so “fair enough”.
So how do we build our energy when a down day occurs? How do we limit the down?
Well we are unique individuals as I may have alluded to in a previous blog, so this may be different for everyone, but for me, energy often comes from passion. Steady now, not necessarily that type of passion…although that can work too…but a passion for doing what I love, what I believe in.
I was reminded of this a short time ago, when I was experiencing a particularly treacly day and found a parcel left at my desk, with a message:
“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.”
This apparently simple message (originally from Oprah Winfrey, as it turns out) made a big difference that day. It helped me find my way out of that treacle before I got in too deep, before a down day multiplied.
It also reminded me that I don’t have to be the only lifter upper – there are many around the place.
I am so grateful for my lifter upper who knew exactly what I needed – a reminder of where to find my energy, my excitement, my power – a reminder…and a beautiful pair of earrings…
